Age of Steel was the first museum exhibition of Albert Paley’s work in the American West. This show took place during an important point in Paley’s career, as he was gaining national and international recognition for his sculptures. The eight works that were shown in this exhibition were all created within a year during an artist residency and exhibition program designed by the Toledo Museum of Art. The aim of the program was to have internationally recognized artists respond to the collection available at the Toledo Museum of Art. Two other artists participated in the program along with Paley: Jim Dine and Therman Statom.
